Merko and Tallinn University of Technology Development Fund award 2015 scholarships

30.11.2015

Merko Ehitus Estonia and Tallinn University of Technology Development Fund have announced the recipients of the 2015 scholarships. This year’s 3,300-euro young scientist scholarship goes to Faculty of Civil Engineering doctoral student Raido Puust and the 2,000-euro engineering scholarship to Kristel Tamm, a fifth-year student in the field of heating and ventilation.

Raido Puust teaches four subjects, is a co-academic adviser for Ph.D. students, writes scientific publications and reviews. The references he provided said his strongest aspect were his level of engagement in establishing subjects taught cooperatively by institutes. In the spring semester; he was co-lecturer in the elective “Building Information Modelling BIM (I)” (taught collaboratively between the Department of Mechanics and Department of Building Production), which proved very popular among students. He plans to establish a similar subject in cooperation with the Department of Road Engineering. Puust has dealt for years with introducing e-study methods to teachers in his faculty. Besides the above, he is also engaged in research at the Department of Mechanics – he is affiliated with IUT[AA1]  and publishes research results. In addition, Puust has been of assistance in developing Erasmus contacts and international cooperation for students in the Faculty of Civil Engineering.

Kristel Tamm’s references praise her for being an active student with excellent academic performance who is endowed with logical thinking, good communication skills, a positive attitude and a willingness to help others. Tamm is devoted to acquiring new knowledge and self-advancement. Besides academics, she works as an engineering technician at OÜ IB Aksiaal, and is a member of the Civil Engineering student council. Kristel aims to pursue further education abroad. Her teachers have expressed hope that she will potentially become a diligent, outstanding engineer with the Estonian heating and ventilation engineers’ association.
Since 2007, Merko has successfully partnered with Tallinn University of Technology to develop education in technical subjects and plant the seeds for a new generation of professionals. An agreement signed in November 2013 concerning the AS Merko Ehitus Estonia scholarships for young scientist/faculty member and for civil engineering student runs until 2016.
