The school house built by the subsidiary of AS Merko Ehitus won the prestigious award in Lithuania

Balsiai school in Vilnius completed this autumn by UAB Merko Statyba, subsidiary of AS Merko Ehitus, received one of the gold medals at the competition “Product of the year 2011 of Lithuania” organized by the Lithuanian Confederation of Industrialists.

“Unique projects such as Balsiai school, the most stylish school in Vilnius, are very important for all of us,” Juozas Magelinskas, the vice president of the Lithuanian Confederation of Industrialists and the chairman of the jury of the Product of the year 2011 of Lithuania, said.

Balsiai school with 600 children is the first pilot project of successfully completed cooperation of public and private sector in Lithuania financed by UAB Merko Statyba which takes care of it for the following 25 years, Jaan Mäe, member of the management board of AS Merko Ehitus Eesti, said. “The fact that all this was completed with only one year is also the reason to be proud of “, he added.

The mayor of Vilnius Arturas Zuokas promised that hereinafter the schoolhouses of Vilnius will be further on built just according to this project. Balsiai schoolhouse with the Scandinavian-type architectural solution has become the place of interest not only among architects, but also among other pupils of schools in Vilnius.

The school has an eye-catching two-storied library, well-lighted classrooms, floor patterns in national colours and private sanitary rooms near the rooms of teachers. Most of the classrooms are connected with the secondary rooms, many classrooms have I-pads and the auditoriums of amphitheatre shape have been built for chemistry and other precision sciences where each pupil has a workplace with separate plug and water tap.

The hall of the school is an unique two-purpose open room which can be easily reorganized for the plays and events from the dining hall. The house has two rooms for dancing lessons, the sports hall can be also changed into two separate rooms. All pupils have personal lockers in the building. The school has a large bicycle parking lot next to it. The school is busy also after the end of the school lessons – the children take the drawing lessons, go in for sports and theatre. All these activities can be carried out also near home which is extremely important for the citizens of Balsiai region. The architect of the school was Sigitas Kuncevicius.
