Methodology for the Sector Leaders 2018 project

The ranking of Sector Leaders 2018 includes only the companies from the TOP 1000 list of Lithuanian enterprises compiled by Verslo Žinios. Rejected from this list are the companies which operated at a loss in 2017; had less than an average of 10 employees in 2018; the average wage paid by the company was lower than the average remuneration in enterprises in the same industry.

The remaining companies are divided into 10 sectors according to their type of business and are individualized in each of these sectors. Companies are ranked according to the following indicators:

  1. 2017 sales revenue;
  2. 2017 sales revenue growth compared to 2016;
  3. 2017 profit before tax;
  4. 2017 growth of profit before tax compared to 2016;
  5. 2017 profitability;
  6. The ratio of wages paid in the company with the average wage in the industry (average in 2017).

The company’s indicators of growth (sales revenue and profit) were adjusted according to the company’s sales income so that the relative growth of the companies of different sizes would be objectively comparable with each other.

For each of the 6 indicators, estimates (0 to 1) were calculated for companies, which correspond to the statistical distribution model of this indicator. The final rating of the company was obtained by adding the estimates for all 6 criteria. The company with the highest score from all 6 assessments is announced as the leader of the sector.
