Cornerstone laid for the Radisson Blu Hotel Lietuva extension

The radiant Radisson Blu Hotel Lietuva on the right bank of the Neris river in Vilnius is expanding, and on 10 May the cornerstone was laid. The hotel property investors, Norwegian real estate development company Linstow AS, the hotel operator Rezidor Hotel Group and Merko Statyba announced that the new project will add an additional tower to transform the hotel into a complex of two buildings.

The new upper upscale business class hotel will have eight floors, and the total area of the hotel premises will increase to 39,500 square metres. The new hotel building will open its doors in May 2018 offering an additional 165 new rooms. With a total of 456 rooms, Radisson Blu Hotel Lietuva will consolidate its position as the largest hotel in Vilnius by rooms. The first floor will offer retail units, floors 2 and 3 will be office space for lease and the hotel will occupy the remaining five floors. The building will offer underground parking and direct access to the existing building.

“Vilnius is a dynamic city and an important market for us. We are seeing continued interest in the property and in the city from business and tourist travellers – as well as an expanding conference segment. The new additional rooms will allow the hotel to accommodate even more events, which is positive for the city and the hotel. We are delighted to be adding rooms in Vilnius and see even more potential to come in this vibrant city,” said David Jenkins Vice President Business Development, Russia, Baltics & CIS.

“I would like to congratulate Radisson Blu Hotel Lietuva on the expansion of its hotel here in Vilnius. This shows that the city’s economy and tourism sector are growing and continue to demonstrate positive results. That said, the potential of conference tourism has not yet been fully harnessed, so the expansion of the hotels is an exciting step for Vilnius,” said Mayor of Vilnius Remigijus Šimašius. “Vilnius is also seeing harmonious expansion of the district between Konstitucijos avenue and the riverside. This part of the city is quickly becoming the second heart of Vilnius,” he added.

Based on the approved plan, Rezidor Hotel Group entrusted the development of the project to Merko Statyba. The total value of construction work is 15.7 million euro. The real estate developer is committed to guarantee that the new Radisson Blu Hotel Lietuva building will meet the standards for sustainable building assessment and certification. According to the project, the building will achieve an A+ energy efficiency class, and will demonstrate the harmony of the architectural idea, construction materials and energy saving solutions. The comfort of the building will be guaranteed by the advanced, environmentally friendly and energy efficient heating and ventilation system.

“Fourteen years ago, the main building of the Radisson Blu Hotel Lietuva was reconstructed. Today, with new strength and strategy, we continue to fulfil our promise to develop the hotel. We are glad to announce that the new building will receive BREEAM certification, which covers contemporary design, efficiency, comfort and well-being,” said Saulius Putrimas, General Manager of Merko statyba.
