Merko starts construction of Akropole, destined to be Riga’s biggest shopping centre

On 7 April, Merko’s Latvian subsidiary SIA Merks and SIA M257 concluded a construction contract under which SIA Merks will start building the multifunctional Akropole Centre in Riga. The total floor space in what will be Latvia’s largest such facility is 98,000 m² and the value of the construction contract is approximately EUR 100 million. The work under the construction contract also includes extensive development of infrastructure – parking areas, surrounding streets and landscaping. The construction works will start in April 2017 and completion is planned for January 2019.

Merko has built a number of shopping centres in the Baltic states, including Viru Keskus and Kristiine Keskus in Tallinn, Spice and Spice Home in Riga, Panorama in Vilnius, and Saules Miestas centre in Šiauliai. Merko is currently building the T1 shopping and entertainment centre in Tallinn, which has 130,000 m² of gross floor area.
