Coal Terminal at MuugaMuuga, Harjumaa

The construction of a modern coal terminal in the eastern part of Muuga Harbour alongside the city of Tallinn was the most costly work in the period of newly gained independence. Its construction lasted for 19 months. The whole area covers 61 hectares, the total length of quays is 830 metres. We built the storage yard for storing up to 800,000 m3 of coal as well. The volume of dredging work amounted to 2.9 million m3 of soil that was deposited to the distance of about 21.6 km. All in all there were about 23,463,300 ton kilometres of sand, clay, gravel, metal and concrete transported on ground, which is comparable to going around the Earth in a day, carrying a weight of one ton.
