In January 2007 Merko Ehitus finished construction works of the Viru-Nigula wind farm 110 kV substation, which included design, construction, installation, adjusting works and construction works of a control building. Construction works of the substation included installation of 3.1 km of 110 kV overhead power lines, construction of a control building and 110kV distribution board. For the first time in Estonia relay protection and automation means manufactured by an Austrian company, Sprecher, were used for building 0 110 kV substation. For Merko Ehitus, as the main contractor, it was the first project of high voltage substation. After experience in designing, constructing, adjusting and equipping such a “design-and-build contract” of a substation, Merko owns a qualified team that will be engaged in constructing substations in the future as well.

On 1 July 2021, Merko Ehitus Eesti acquired a stake in Connecto Eesti, and the Merko electrical construction business line merged with Connecto. Acting jointly under the Connecto brand makes it possible for us to offer a significantly broader range of services – in addition to the design, construction and maintenance of low, medium and high voltage electricity networks, Connecto also operates in the field of telecommunications and gas networks.
