Merks carried out the load tests of the new bridge in Latvia
SIA Merks, the subsidiary of Merko Ehitus having extensively renovated the bridge of River Gauja in Latvia, successfully carried out the load tests of the bridge which are obligatory in Latvia prior to taking any new bridge into use.
The company informed that for the purpose of testing the bridge was loaded with the trucks located according to different schemes and the tests were completed successfully. Viktors Bakanovs, the project manager having monitored the tests from the boat under the bridge, drew attention that the bridge was established with the new technology in Latvia and during its establishing the interruption of the traffic could be avoided, by installing the temporary bridge on the river at the same time. The concrete works were performed with the company’s own forces, Bakanovs added.
The cost of the bridge ordered by Latvian Road Administration was approximately 63 million kroons (2.8 million lats). The new bridge is 143.39 meters long, 16.27 meters wide and weighs 3,500 tons.
