Chairman of the Management Board of UAB Merko Statyba and UAB Merko Būstas

The Time of Black Swans – this is what I would call the beginning of the current decade, during which we have experienced unforeseen global events that have had a profound impact on our business. Fortunately, over the 25 years and more of Merko Lithuania’s existence, we have established a solid foundation for the long-term success of our business. We are ethical, professional, reliable, open to progress and committed to sustainability. All of this allows us to work successfully and achieve high, even nationally significant, goals.

Guided by our core values, we have been the first to implement many projects in Lithuania. For example, we were the first to invest in and construct energy-efficient homes. By implementing a PPP agreement, we developed the first A++ energy efficiency class administrative building in Lithuania – Kaunas District Chief Police Headquarters. The advanced systems of renewable energy sources installed there help to make savings in energy costs and also ensure the necessary comfort for users of the building all year round. The result can already be seen – all the energy required for operation of the building is produced from renewable energy sources generated on site.

We are continuing to develop the residential Vilnelės skverai project, in which over 1,000 apartments will be built across four stages. In this development, we are also paying close attention to the energy efficiency of the buildings. In the ‘For Sustainable Development’ competition, Vilnelės Skverai was recognised as the best residential project in Lithuania for 2023. And even when the real estate market was stagnating, by the end of 2023 we will sign almost 150 preliminary contracts in our Vilnelės Skverai project, 40% more than last year.

I would also like to highlight wind farms here – we laid the first foundations for them back in 2015, when discussions about the sustainability and shortage of electricity were mostly theoretical. Today, we have laid over 100 such foundations in Lithuania. In the future, we will be adding even more – contracts signed last year will involve foundations for over 84 wind turbines and the necessary infrastructure. This is testament to the fact that Merko is a leader in the renewable energy construction sector and is directly contributing to the development of a green, sustainable future and energy security.

Merko is a leader in the renewable energy construction sector and is directly contributing to the development of a green, sustainable future and energy security.

This year, we can celebrate record achievements: the total value of signed general construction contracts has reached almost 300 million euros. Among them is the largest contract in our history, worth 116 million euros. We have been given the responsibility for creating the infrastructure needed to host NATO’s Very High Readiness Joint Task Force (VJTF). Upon completing this project, the training ground will accommodate up to 2,500 troops and become one of the most modern in the Baltic countries.

I take pride in Merko projects, our reputation, the trust we have earned from clients and our plans. I am confident that the unbreakable values of the company and our professional, experienced and innovative team will allow Merko to continue to lead, and that it will always stay one step ahead in our challenging world.
