General construction

General construction consists of the construction of different buildings, from commercial and office buildings, retail and entertainment centres to public sector and residential and specialised industrial buildings. Group companies provide in Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Norway strategic consulting and quality complete solutions as part of the general contracting service of construction according to the customer’s requirements: preparation, design, construction, interior and warranty service.

With the aim to offer its clients a more comprehensive and high-quality service and to improve the efficiency of cooperation between the parties, Merko has introduced model designing. This modern solution allows us to create a better image of the existing building and its volume, to check for discrepancies in design solutions, calculate the construction volumes of the design project and generate visual 3D views of the design. In addition, building simulations allow us to better assess the future energy needs and management costs as well as user friendliness of the designed building.

A large share of the new buildings in Tallinn city centre were built by Merko: the Maakri Kvartal business complex, the Hilton Tallinn Park Hotel, the Tornimäe apartment building, the high-rise offices of SEB Bank, Viru Keskus and Solaris malls, the Coca-Cola Plaza cinema, Tallink City Hotel and Nordic Hotel Forum. In addition, Merko also built the unique Art Museum of Estonia KUMU, the Tallinn Airport aircraft service complex, Narva-Jõesuu hotel and water park Noorus SPA Hotel, multifunctional Tondiraba Ice Arena, and, in cooperation with the international prime contractor, the Iru waste-to-energy unit of Iru power plant.

In Latvia, Merko built the current Swedbank headquarters, the multifunctional recreational centre Riga Arena, Spice and Spice Home shopping centres, the Cesis house of detention and Cēsu Alus brewery production buildings. In 2015 were completed two large projects – Polipaks plant in Marupe and the multifunctional centre Liepajas Dzintars. Among Lithuanian sites, highlights include the Lietuva Hotel, the Lietuvos Telekomas headquarters, Panorama shopping centre, Balsiai school building and the Saules Miestas shopping centre in Šiauliai, also the construction of the Sports hall of The American International School of Vilnius.
