The reconstruction project of the first quay consisted of the building of stakes, concrete constructions, passage bridges, attributes of the port and cathode protection. The construction process was challenging, as in December, 2002 both the port and the surrounding sea area were attacked by flat ice. After the frosts were over, the builders’ team was surprised by a spring storm that carried away the supporting raft and took it three kilometres to the high sea, where it floated solitarily and while passing by, had dismantled the welded formwork that had been covered with east concrete. These are some examples of unexpected challenges that builders have to meet while carrying out very unique projects, but which are always ultimately manageable.
