Installation of submarine cables in the Suur Strait and the Väike Strait inclusive of dredging works using a turn-key solution.
In the Suur Strait, two old 35 kW cable lines between the Rõuste Substation located on the mainland and the Tusti Substation located on the Muhu Island shall be replaced with a new 110 kW submarine cable. The total length of the Suur Strait cable line is approx. 11 kilometres, 9.7 kilometres of which runs under the sea. The cable shall be manufactured at Prysmian’s Pikkala Cable Factory in Finland, and it shall be installed in the sea using a special ship or barge. The total weight of the cable is approx. 650 tons. Within the framework of the project, a new 110 kW cell shall be built for connecting the line of the Rõuste Substation, and, after the deployment of the new submarine cable, the old 35 kW cable lines shall be disassembled and decommissioned.
A new 110 kW submarine cable shall be constructed in the Väike Strait between the Muhu Island and the Saaremaa Island. Whereas the security of supply of Saaremaa and Hiiumaa has completely relied on the overhead transmission lines of the Väike Strait, then a submarine cable shall provide an additional connection that is not dependent on weather conditions. The total length of the cable line in the Väike Strait spans 6.7 kilometres from the Muhu Island to the Orissaare Substation, 4.7 kilometres of which shall be installed under the sea.
The capacity of the cables in both of the straits is 520 amperes, and the submarine cable combines three phases into a single cable. The diameter of the cable is 190 millimetres, and it weighs 67 kilograms per metre. The submarine cables shall be installed under the sea in the form of a single long cable, i.e. without couplings. Also, a fibreoptic communications cable shall be installed together with the new cable. In both straits, the submarine cable shall be recessed into the bottom of the sea to reduce the possibility of it being accidentally damaged by anchors, ridged ice and other external factors.
On 1 July 2021, Merko Ehitus Eesti acquired a stake in Connecto Eesti, and the Merko electrical construction business line merged with Connecto. Acting jointly under the Connecto brand makes it possible for us to offer a significantly broader range of services – in addition to the design, construction and maintenance of low, medium and high voltage electricity networks, Connecto also operates in the field of telecommunications and gas networks.
