In the course of the works, Tõrva’s central square underwent a thorough renovation and a new bus station was built. The works opened up a view of and access to Veskijärv lake, and a symbolic structure called the Tõrva Chimney was built for the town by the artificial lake. The current expansive plaza was zoned into smaller open areas more appropriate for a small town, and more greenery were planted. The central square became a playful suite of plazas differentiated by the paving stones, which were laid into different patterns.
Tõrva is the first town to get a new central area in the framework of the Republic of Estonia’s centennial year programme, EV100, under the keyword “Public space.”
