The Kiisa emergency backup power station was built to ensure the reliability of the Estonian power system. The total capacity of the natural gas and diesel-powered two-block station is 250 MW. During the first construction stage, the first block of the 110 MW fully automatic power station was built. The block comprises two 110 kV switchyard transformer compartments, a 350-metre overhead line to the Kiisa substation, two 110/20 kV power transformers, 20 kV switchgear, twelve engine blocks as well as auxiliary, control and automation equipment, all of which are interconnected with about 140 km of supply and control cables. During the second stage, the 140 MW section was built, comprising three 330 kV switchyard transformer compartments, a 250 metre overhead line to the Kiisa substation, three 330/20 kV power transformers, 20 kV switchgear, fifteen engine blocks as well as auxiliary, control and automation equipment, all of which are interconnected with about 147 km of supply and control cables.

On 1 July 2021, Merko Ehitus Eesti acquired a stake in Connecto Eesti, and the Merko electrical construction business line merged with Connecto. Acting jointly under the Connecto brand makes it possible for us to offer a significantly broader range of services – in addition to the design, construction and maintenance of low, medium and high voltage electricity networks, Connecto also operates in the field of telecommunications and gas networks.
