What was once the most important submarine construction facility in tsarist Russia has now become a harbour complex open to both the people and the sea. In cooperation with BLRT, Merko has built a modern living environment and designs a public urban space that has become a popular place for Tallinners and visitors to spend time.
Together with the development of Staapli residential quarter, Krusenstern Square and a promenade on quay no. 43 were built, between Estonia’s most seaside apartment buildings and the water line. In 2019, the renovation of Noblessner quay no. 42 and the promenade in front of Kai Art Centre were completed. In the course of the renovation of quay no. 42 at Noblessner Port, the quay’s load-bearing capacity was restored, the front wall of the quay was reconditioned and a promenade was established on top of the quay along with wooden set of stairs leading to floating docks.
In the course of the renovation, the stability of the front wall was restored using micro-piles, the exposed rebar was cleaned and coated with an anti-corrosion compound and concrete was poured both to protect the front wall and to straighten the top edge. New bollards and barriers were also installed on the renovated quay.A 62-metre-long and 3.2-metre-wide staircase of Siberian larch was built at the landward end of the quay. It rests directly on steel pipe piles driven into the hard blue clay layer in front of the quay wall. Floating docks are attached to the renovated quay and the floating docks established in front of them; here recreational craft calling at the marina can moor.
Along the top of the quay, between the Kai Art centre and the sea, a promenade was established. The illuminated word NOBLESSNER – the name of the harbour complex is embedded into the paving stones of the promenade and is visible at night.- Client:
