The project of the Viru Centre that was completed in April, 2004, comprised a new building as well as the reconstruction of the former Viru Hotel – Shopping Centre. Although construction works are always complicated in downtown areas, the most serious problem in the building which is operating is the construction-demolition work (dust, noise, water, working at nights, etc). The problem of how to carry on with construction became especially acute after the opening of the Convention Centre, as during daytime it was not possible to work because of the sold-out conference rooms and at night or early in the mornings because of the hotel guests – the building started to fully operate that quickly!
The gross area of the extension to the shopping centre is 85,000 m2, the gross area of the Viru Business Centre is 47,280 m2, its cubic content stands at 193,564 m3 and the volume of concrete amounts to 30,000 m3
