In the autumn of 2010, the Kadriorg Art Museum celebrated its 10th anniversary with the publication of the book Kadriorg. Palace’s Story. The volume is a comprehensive treatise on the history of Kadriorg Palace, from the era of Peter the Great to the present. The book departs from the traditional preoccupations of architectural history that emphasize questions of form to focus on the political and social context of the palace. From the palace as a building and physical object, the focus has shifted to its use and how the national state symbolism and national identity were brought to bear on the palace under various administrations. The book offers fresh perspectives and new information about Kadriorg’s distant and more recent past, and includes an abundance of images from Estonian, Russian and Italian art and photography collections, many of which have been published here for the first time.
