In 2017, Merks SIA supported the Reinhold Schmaeling Conference in Latvia, organised by the Riga City Architect’s Office and focused on involving the public in planning for a better future for the city of Riga. Both local and foreign professionals and activists in architecture, construction and related fields attended the conference to discuss the topics of inclusive urbanism and new trends and challenges in architecture and urban planning.
