Supporting Ukraine
We have supported Ukraine and Ukrainians in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania through various projects and partnerships.
In Estonia, we supported sending ten guerrilla ambulances to Ukraine in 2022 through the NGO Slava Ukraini. Because regular ambulance vehicles are not practical in Eastern Ukraine and transport of the wounded requires a car that is durable and can carry all the essential medical equipment, TOYOTA HIACE 4WD vehicles were converted into guerilla ambulances – vehicles that are very easy to clean, have all the necessary features and equipment (stretcher, lighting, power for the resuscitation device, drip hooks, etc.) and can be repaired by practically anyone. In addition, we supported the purchase of breathing apparatus and tourniquets. The HAMILTON-T1 breathing apparatus for transporting and evacuating premature babies (from 400 grams) is used in the neonatal intensive care unit of the Chernivtsi Regional Perinatal Centre. Each of the tens of thousands of tourniquets sent to Ukraine by Slava Ukraini helps save lives.
In Latvia, in 2022, we cooperated with the real estate developer Kapitel and the local initiative “I Want to Help Refugees” to offer Ukrainian war refugees temporary residence in the historic House of Benjamins in the centre of Riga. The facilities of the former hotel were adapted for temporary accommodation, and catering facilities, information about the services and support available in Riga, and Latvian language classes were all available in the building. In total, several hundred war refugees were made welcome at the hotel. In 2023, we sent Ukrainians winter essentials, generators and vehicles to transport the wounded.
In Lithuania, in 2022, we supported the refugee centre in Vilnius and the voluntary organisation Stiprūs Kartu – an NGO that assists war refugees who have reached Lithuania. In addition, we donated 40 bunk beds to accommodation centres in Kaunas, which host children from Ukraine without parental care or mothers with babies.
