2023 has undoubtedly been an extraordinarily exciting year for Merko Ehitus Eesti. Just as all the previous ones have been and all the next ones will surely be. Changing market and economic conditions continue to challenge us to make quick and often radical decisions. Lately, it’s been happening more frequently than we would like. The market and the world, however, do not ask us what we like or whether we want to change anything.
Based my four years at Merko, I can proudly say that our team is up to the task: we’ve made the necessary decisions and executed them. Proof of this are the results already recorded this year. Moreover, while today we are reaping the fruits of the success of the real estate development in the last few years and knowing that the real estate market will be in a downturn in the near future, I am happy to note we have been able to quickly readjust and are focusing more on construction services and are able to keep our teams busy providing value to our customers.
That we have been able to quickly readjust and are focusing more on construction services and are able to keep our teams busy providing value to our customers.
Our construction services portfolio is in as good condition as it can be in today’s turbulent world. True, we are also lucky enough to have such a massive project like the Arter Quarter in our portfolio in these difficult times which is providing our various units with work and put bread on the table altogether for four years. We doff our cap to all of the Merko clients whose trust we’ve earned.
This autumn, an Instar survey found that Merko Ehitus Eesti was Estonia’s most attractive employer among engineering students. In the overall rankings based on responses from students in all fields, Merko was the highest ranked employer among construction and real estate development companies. This recognition is one of the most valuable during current year for me. That’s because one of the most important tasks of running a business is to ensure its continuity. We’re sustainable only if young, ambitious and hard-working people value us and want to contribute to the world in our company.
One of the most important tasks of running a business is to ensure its continuity. We’re sustainable only if young, ambitious and hard-working people value us and want to contribute to the world in our company.
In a free world, young people have almost infinite choices. For Merko to receive this recognition is a joint achievement of our team – the efforts of our HR department, the construction site teams and many other departments. Thank you, we are doing the right thing!
2024 will be a volatile year, which is something we should be used to by now. Yet there is hope that a certain amount of stability and predictability will return, allowing us to take some forward-looking decisions with a longer-term impact. For example, perhaps launch construction of some larger stage of our residential development project. Thanks to the good decisions and quality of work that characterise Merko, we are in good financial health and our outlook for the future is clearly positive. We will take it easy, assess the situation and take decisions as we go.
In the new year, I will start as the head of Merko Ehitus group. I would like to thank Merko’s owners for their trust. Working with the Merko Ehitus Eesti team has convinced me that Merko is the best place to work, not only for the young and the ambitious, but for everyone! Let’s keep pushing!
