To improve road safety and increase traffic capacity, large-scale works were done on the Estonian main road 1 (E20, Tallinn-Narva), which belongs to the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T). On kilometres 81–87, we built two lanes in both directions instead of the earlier 1+1 road, and on kilometres 78–81, we reconstructed the four lane road section. In addition, we built a grade-separated interchange and collector roads along which the traffic of the whole area can reach the main road at Aaspere.
The earlier access roads to Tallinn-Narva highway were closed, and we built a overpass at Vanamõisa and a pedestrian tunnel at Sauste for crossing the main road. In addition, we built noise barriers and boundary fences. In 2019, the Aaspere-Haljala section of Tallinn-Narva road was used on average by approximately 6,600 cars daily, or approximately by 200,000 a month or 2.4 million a year. The completed road makes traffic safer and more convenient for everyone.
