A new 330 kV duplex cell for connecting the Harku-Lihula-Sindi overhead line was constructed in Harku substation, an additional 20 MVAr reactor was procured for the substation, the necessary work was planned, and equipment were installed. The work was done by the “turnkey” method.
The expansion of the Harku substation is part of the establishment of a third electrical connection between Estonia and Latvia, which plays a significant role in the desynchronization of Baltic electricity networks from the Russian electricity grid and in connection with the Central European frequency bands. In addition to the wider geopolitical dimension, the expansion of the Harku substation and the future interconnection of the Harku-Sindi overhead of the substation will create opportunities for strengthening the high-voltage network in Western Estonia and for ensuring better security of supply in the mainland of Estonia.
