Jõhvi-Ida 35/6 kV substation

Description of work

The Jõhvi-Ida 35/6 kilovolt regional substation is a key hub in Ida-Viru County’s power grid, which each year conveys about 28,600 MWh of power. The substation supplies electricity to more than 2,200 customers – close to one-third of the Jõhvi city’s households and companies, including the Jõhvi Concert Hall, Viru Prison, Eesti Energia’s technology units and a dairy industry. AS Merko Infra built the new substation building, installed distribution and control equipment, and replaced the existing transformers with much more powerful ones. In the course of the work, the depreciated equipment from the 1960s predecessor were replaced with modern power grid equipment that can be remote controlled and allow rapid responses to incidents, better detection of fault locations and faster restoration of power to customers. In addition, modern equipment that improves environmental and electrical safety was installed in the substation.

On 1 July 2021, Merko Ehitus Eesti acquired a stake in Connecto Eesti, and the Merko electrical construction business line merged with Connecto. Acting jointly under the Connecto brand makes it possible for us to offer a significantly broader range of services – in addition to the design, construction and maintenance of low, medium and high voltage electricity networks, Connecto also operates in the field of telecommunications and gas networks.
