The overhead line built in spring 2014 to Narva’s new 300MW power plant and the freshly renovated Aruküla 330/110 kV substation ensures that the energy unit is connected to the Estonian power grid. The project also included design, two double-circuit high-voltage aerial pylons with foundations, and wiring work, including laying optic cable. The design part proceeded from the possibility for adding an additional 300MW energy generation unit – which lacks an investment decision so far – and connecting it to the national transmission system.
A challenge included the cooling pipe, which was not included in the terms of reference but was necessary for power plant operations, and also the coolant pipe that ran through the area reserved for the foundations. In the constricted conditions of the work site, changing the location of the pylon was not possible and thus the design team solved the situation by replacing standardized factory product with a pile foundation poured in situ.
A number of parallel work segments on this major project required flexibility in the schedule and rapid reaction time, but in collaboration with subcontractors these issues were resolved.
On 1 July 2021, Merko Ehitus Eesti acquired a stake in Connecto Eesti, and the Merko electrical construction business line merged with Connecto. Acting jointly under the Connecto brand makes it possible for us to offer a significantly broader range of services – in addition to the design, construction and maintenance of low, medium and high voltage electricity networks, Connecto also operates in the field of telecommunications and gas networks.
