The third stage of Uus-Veerenni introduces new apartment buildings on Pille Street, adjacent to Vana-Lõuna Street. This phase includes two four-storey buildings and one six-storey building, all completed in the summer of 2021. The surroundings have been thoughtfully landscaped and feature a recreation and play area with ample southern and western sun exposure. Inside the block are pedestrian and bike-friendly pathways, alongside an underground parking facility for cars. Guests can conveniently store their bicycles in designated areas near the buildings.
Architect Velle Kadalipp, responsible for the design of the apartment buildings at Pille 4, found inspiration in plywood. This choice of material is deeply rooted in the historical context of the location, as it was once the site of the Luther plywood and furniture factory. Hints of plywood’s layered structure and striped cross-section are evident in the design elements found on the facades and staircases. The taller building mirrors the form of bent plywood as it gracefully curves around the adjacent traffic circle.
These apartment buildings boast a B energy class rating and have been constructed following the Tark Maja smart building principle. The units range from one to four rooms, some featuring private balconies or terraces that open onto the courtyard. Residents enjoy the benefits of heat recovery ventilation and water-based underfloor heating, which can be controlled on a room-by-room basis.
Nestled between Veerenni, Vana-Lõuna, and Tehnika Streets, Uus-Veerenni is central Tallinn’s largest comprehensive housing development. In its entirety, the development project involves the construction of nearly fifty new apartment buildings. Pille 7, 9 and 11 house spaces for small businesses and offices on their ground floors, and the entire complex is completed by a park and kindergarten. Future plans include adding a commercial building in the middle part of the complex near Tehnika Street, enhancing the quarter’s vibrant urban landscape.
Uus-Veerenni has earned the admiration of our customers and received acclaim in various competitions. Notably, the courtyard situated between the buildings of the first stage of Uus-Veerenni was awarded the 2020 Estonian Landscape Architects’ Union annual award in the courtyard category.
